People often ask me why I am running for Congress. It's simple, I wanted to continue to do more to work for the people of this district and for the values that I believe are important to hardworking Americans everywhere.
This is a solidly Democratic district. Yet, we have someone in Congress who does not represent the people who live here. In fact, we have someone representing us who doesn't live in the district or keep his Congressional office in the district. We should not have someone in Congress who is consistantly voting on the other side of the aisle! It would be one thing if he was working to enhance Democratic values and morals, but he isn't. He has basically sold out to special interests, big money, Tom DeLay and his Republican pals.
Sometimes we allow people who represent swing districts to play on both sides of the fence, but that's not the case in our district. The district is not a swing district.
We need to make an example of Henry Cuellar - we need to make sure he doesn't get re-elected. We need to stand together and say that as Democrats we won't let someone who claims to represent our interests go to Washington and vote against us.
In Congress Democrats should meet the needs of their constituents and talk about the issues we are faced with everyday.
We need to concentrate on the things that matter to working Americans like infrastructure of our nation, education and healthcare.
We have to put our efforts into making sure we have the resources we need here at home. Our country's infrastructure is falling apart - streets, bridges, everywhere - and there has not been a true emphasis on addressing that issue.
In order for us to continue to be a super-power we need to have good, educated citizens - that means strong public schools, access to higher education and job training.
Our veterens need to be taken care of and honored for their service to our country.
The 43 million Americans who do not have access to healthcare, yet work hard every day and pay their taxes, can not be ignored.
Instead what is happening is that we are handing the younger generation a country that is falling apart, with over 8 trillion in debt, and saying "Good Luck". We are digging a hole for the next generation.
These are just some of the reasons why I am fighting hard to go back to Congress. I hope that you will take the time to learn a little bit more about me and my campaign and join us in this effort.
I look forward to keeping you updated on our progress. Thank you for your support.
