As we enter into a 2nd week of early voting here in Texas, I wanted to take the time to share with you some of things that are happening here on the ground. We have just over a week until Election Day, and things are really heating up.
As you know, my opponents' campaign has begun to finally realize that the real Democrats are not going to sit by and watch him coast to an easy victory. They have continued to downplay, and attack, our efforts. His campaign manager even went so far as to disrespect the online community, after this "one day story" has stuck around:
"Ciro and his special interest friends have arrived at the 11th hour...," said Colin Strother, the general consultant to Cuellar's campaign.
What they don't seem to get is that our campaign is not beholden to any special interests but to the hard working men and women of the 28th District.
We may be nearing crunch time, but we are far from satisfied - my campaign is in full swing.
Each and everyday we welcome more and more people to our team. There have been many volunteers who have been working consistently to call their neighbors and urge them to vote in this election. Others have gone door-to-door, to local democratic clubs, community associations gatherings and union meetings to spread our campaign's message in person.
I have been traveling throughout the district every day to meet with and talk to voters. Today I will be visiting a mobile voting station in Pearsall, and later today I will meet with student organizations at Texas State University in San Marcos and elected officials of Hays County. Texas has a two week early voting period, and this weekend the San Antonio Express-News reported that early voting turnout was up 28% compared to 2004. I hope that number will continue to rise. Casting a ballot is a truest way to participate in our great Democracy and honors all of the men and women who shed blood, sweat and tears to make that a reality for us all.
As we move into the final days of this election we will continue our efforts to Get Out The Vote, in person, through the mail and on TV. Your support of my campaign has made that possible. The many individuals who have given their hard-earned dollars to this race have taken my campaign to a whole new level and I thank you for that. We were able to move onto the airwaves throughout the district and produce several mail pieces to reach out to voters. Now we have to take the fight to the doors. You can see my latest ad now!
If you are in or around the 28th district I urge you to take some time and volunteer with the campaign. Together we can make this happen - and just like each and every dollar, every hour you can spend reaching out to the voters is critical to the success of a campaign.
If you can, please consider volunteering or making a financial contribution to make sure we are able to continue to amplify our efforts as we near Election Day.
